On September 27, the 1st Nuu Savi Forum: Voices of the Mixteca for Water Justice was held — a space for reflection and dialogue that brought together organizations, communities, and authorities committed to defending the human right to water and sanitation in our region. Fundación Pro-Mixteca, together with Mujeres en Desarrollo A.C. and Fondo para la Paz I.A.P., in coordination with the Municipality of Huajuapan de León, led this important event.

During the forum, participants identified the challenges the region faces regarding equitable access to water, community resource management, and the implementation of sustainable solutions. Additionally, several successful case studies already in practice within some communities were shared.

This collective and participatory initiative will be replicated in two more districts of our region, with the aim of identifying communities facing greater water stress and developing potential solutions based on their own contexts. The outcome will be the creation of a work agenda that unites different stakeholders to develop projects grounded in participatory assessments and existing solutions.

“Water is not only cared for — it is defended. And its defense comes from the heart of our communities.”
