I met the Pro‑Mixteca Foundation in 2016, when we launched this project—our family initiative: my wife manages irrigation to keep our mushrooms alive, and my daughter handles timing. At first, we got discouraged because people in town were used to foraging wild mushrooms but not buying them. However, over time I began promoting them on social media, and now people are becoming accustomed to consuming cultivated oyster mushrooms.
Thanks to Pro‑Mixteca and the Sertull Foundation, last year we were able to equip our growing facility. We’ve been producing for six years now and, thank God, things have gone well. We sell our product to the community: all natural, no chemicals. We prepare a variety of mushroom dishes and promote them; customers now ask how to cook them—in chiltate, with strips of onion and chili, in tinga, in jam, with rice and beans, cooked on the cob, mixed with nopales… This is how we win over customers by offering fresh ideas.
The Pro‑Mixteca Foundation has greatly helped me create a source of income for my family, proving that everything is possible, even when water is scarce; you just have to persevere. I’m inspired by our customers and their word‑of‑mouth referrals. The foundation also provides us with personal development training, which broadens our mindset and sparks enthusiasm in others.
Everything is possible: nothing in life is impossible. Support us—consume oyster mushrooms—and if you ever need a friend or training, I’m here to help. Our goal is to build a network of oyster mushroom producers; count on me for whatever you need.
